Screenshots of one of my favorite movie : “Dans la Maison” [“In the House”] directed by François Ozon in 2012, and adaptated from the spanish stage play “El chico de la última fila” [“The Boy in the last Row”]
I’ve never really been fond of french movies, because i always found them kinda boring and often way too dramatical but one day, i randomly saw the trailer of “Dans la Maison” and i’ve really been intrigued by its story which seemed pretty original, and above all, by its main character, Claude, played by Ernst Umhauer.
The story deals with Claude who is a young boy of 16 years old who have a writing gift. His teacher, Mister Germain, himself impressed by this young prodige, decided to take him under his wing to help him to develop this gift.
But what mister Germain didn’t know, is that Claude, fascinated by his best’s friend family, decided to manipulate them, to interfere into their house and their family life (*the last picture sums up perfectly this situation*) to write a story where reality meets fiction, and where the fantasies of a young teenager will become reality, whatever it will cost…The thing that appealed me the most to see this movie was Ernst Umhauer ! Besides the fact he is pretty good loking -at least, in this role- (lol), I think he fits perfectly the role of very a manipulative but in the same time innocent young boy, who only wanna live his dreams/fantaisies and make them happen at any costs. The variations of his face’s expressions are quite impressive : one time he’s manipulative with lying tendancies, and the next time, a sad -yet desperate- naive teenager confusing his dreams with reality~ So that that after seeing the movie for the first time, we don’t really know if some events have really happened or if they only came from Claude’s imagination
I think Claude is somewhat very engaging (yeah, i really like strange/kinda crazy guys, haha !), because even if he keeps on manipulating everybody around him, he still -in a strange way- kind, because he doesn’t seem to want offend anyone, but just to live his dreams, find love, and escape of the harsh reality of his real life~
There is also many narrative sequences - Claude writing what he’s living (and vice versa) - and i really like Ernst’s soft voice which still fits perfectly with the character of Claude, hehe~♥
It’s been a while since i’ve been so fascinated by a fictional character ! (I think the last one was Rorschark from “Watchmen”, haha !) and i can say that Claude is one of my favorite fictional character ! ♥♥
Here’s the trailer of the movie (i’ve choose the french trailer because i think the american one is way less good) - as a french movie you may not understand a single word, but netherless feel the atmosphere of the movie, and above all, catch a glimpse of Ernst Umhauer’s amazing performance ! =’D #fangirl :
